In terms of oils and vinegars, invest in a bottle of olive oil and vegetable oil for frying and baking. Sesame oil is a healthy, tasty addition to any stir fry, and balsamic vinegar is great for livening up a salad.

For baking, you’ll likely always need flour, sugar and yeast, which come in handy for a range of other meals too. And for flavorings, vanilla, baking chocolate or cocoa powder make all sweet things sing.

In terms of spices and seasonings, salt and pepper are your new best friends. Moreover, you could invest on a spice set , which would include cinnamon, ginger, cumin, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, and chili powder.

Sharp knives are a must. They will just make your life so much easier. This will do less damage to the ingredients you are using, allow for higher precision, better presentation, and less wastage. So, don’t hold back from investing in high-quality chef’s knife, serrated bread knife, a good paring knife and slicing knife AT LEAST! 😀

A decent food-processor is also a godsend, as are a range of fit-to-purpose pans and saucepans. Aluminium, stainless steel, cast-iron and copper pans are all worth the money and have different qualities for different jobs. Get yourself a range and take care of them, because with a bit of TLC, they can last a lifetime.
