Cooking is an art. And like any other craft, this requires dedication, curiosity and a good investment on good tools to master properly. Quite a task, eh? The good news is, anyone can do it! And it’s always going to impress your family, loved ones, your partner, and your friends.

Here are some easy tips on how to learn cooking! Let’s get you started on your journey to culinary proficiency, shall we?

1. Stock Up On The Essentials

To conquer is to be well-prepared for the battle, and in cooking we have to stock up on the essential ingredients every cook or baker needs. That being said, you have to buy the essentials — know which ingredients are cheap to buy, hard to find, last a long time, and form the flavor of a whole range of meals. In this way, you won’t miss a vital ingredient for your recipes.

Essential Ingredients You Should Have

In terms of oils and vinegars, invest in a bottle of olive oil and vegetable oil for frying and baking. Sesame oil is a healthy, tasty addition to any stir fry, and balsamic vinegar is great for livening up a salad.

For baking, you’ll likely always need flour, sugar and yeast, which come in handy for a range of other meals too. And for flavorings, vanilla, baking chocolate or cocoa powder make all sweet things sing.

In terms of spices and seasonings, salt and pepper are your new best friends. Moreover, you could invest on a spice set , which would include cinnamon, ginger, cumin, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, and chili powder.

And as for essential herbs, basil, thyme, sage, dill and oregano are always great in a pasta sauce and Mediterranean cooking. If you haven’t already, get acquainted with your garden and see which herbs you can grow at home because fresh is always better.

2. Take A Cooking Class

If you find yourself stuck in a rut doing the same techniques on how to cook good food, a cooking class could help you make a leap to the next level.

Cooking classes are a great way to get professional guidance. There a lot of cooking classes available in the city. But if you are more of a private person, you can get help through online classes that can guide you. One of which is a blog like Clever Kitchen.

If that’s not your kind of learning, cooking can be a lovely way to spend time with your family. Together, you can learn more as you spend quality time as a fam!

3. Invest in the Right Tools

There’s no end to the gear you can kit your kitchen out with and trying to invest in the highest quality across the board can cost a fortune. However there are some essentials where paying a little extra will make all the difference.

Sharp knives are a must. They will just make your life so much easier. This will do less damage to the ingredients you are using, allow for higher precision, better presentation, and less wastage. So, don’t hold back from investing in high-quality chef’s knife, serrated bread knife, a good paring knife and slicing knife AT LEAST! 😀

A decent food-processor is also a godsend, as are a range of fit-to-purpose pans and saucepans. Aluminium, stainless steel, cast-iron and copper pans are all worth the money and have different qualities for different jobs. Get yourself a range and take care of them, because with a bit of TLC, they can last a lifetime.

I hope these 3 easy tips can help you get started with your inner master chef discovery! Until next time!
